Collected by gathering the hearts of cherry pits after they're dried and cracked, mahlab is a treasured spice for which we know of no substitute. When served raw, mahlab has sweet and floral notes of cherries, roses, and almonds. When used in a baked or cooked dish, mahlab imparts a fruity taste that's both rich and subtle. Mahlab goes beautifully with dairy dishes, like rice puddings, and in recipes laced with honey. Each package contains 1.75 oz.
