"...the art of concealing beauty that you may discover it, ..it is the noble secret of laughing at yourself, calmly yet thoroughly, and is thus humour itself,--the smile of philosophy." - The Book of Tea
Teaism is:
A collection of Asian-inspired teahouses that infuse the cultures of tea and the ideals of teaism with the informality and casualness of America;
A collection of critically acclaimed restaurants that produce simple foods from the cuisines of tea, Bento boxes from Japan, curries from Thailand, and tandoor breads from India;
A collection of tea shops with an abundance of tea accessories and exhibitions of work by local potters and artists;
& more.
Why do we do what we do?
A desire to share our discovery of the richness and complexity of the tea leaf;
A response to the corruption of tea, the style above substance and the use of tea bags in American offerings; &
An alternative to the obfuscation, over-formalizaiton, and xenophobia of traditional Asian and English tea houses.
